Episode 1
THE PRESENT
INT. THE WADA’S CHAMBER- EVENING
Inside a modestly large, glassed wall conference room sits a 39 year old Ann at the helm of a long rectangular table. Before her sits her elegantly suited partners on both sides of the table
With her back to the chair, one hand pressing the laptop in front of her while the other hand on her chin as she listen carefully to what is been discussed in the meeting
The door opened as a young lady in a fitted gown walked into the room. She hastened her steps towards Ann seeing as all attention diverted to her. Getting to Ann, she gently bend and whispered into her left ear
SECRETARY
(In a low voice) He is here
Ann nods, then the lady leaves. Sitting upright, she closed her laptop,
ANN
(In an authoritative voice) Please continue
Then she stands up and walks out of the conference room. About a minute of clacking the floor of her law firm with her heels, she enters a large golden lighted office where an older Aperry in a fitted suit sits waiting for her
ANN
Please tell me you have it
Aperry stands up and hands her the file in his hand before buttoning his three pieces suit. Ann looks through the file and then opens her mouth in amazement
ANN
Is this…
APERRY
Every naira the bastard stole, it was hard but we found his Swiss account
She chuckles loudly
ANN
Did I tell you, you are a genius?
APERRY
Every time I investigate for you
ANN
Well you are, now that I have him his nuts, I am going to have a field day destroying this asshole in court
Ann said with a broad smile on her as she goes to her table
APERRY
(In a gloomy voice) But no one is going to care about that
Ann looks at him in confusion
APERRY
No one is interested in some governor who stole his people’s pension money, at the moment all they care about is if Imade King is guilty or not
ANN
(Scoffs loudly as she sits on her desk) Aperry, please not this again
He moves closer to her
APERRY
(In stern voice) Are you going to let her go to jail?
ANN
(Offended) Watch the way you speak to me, Aperry, I don’t like that tone
APERRY
(Breathed loudly) Are you really going to let her go to jail?
ANN
Am I really going to let her go to jail… why are you making it sound like I put her in jail, like I set her up?
APERRY
She didn’t do this, Ann and you know that
She goes round her desk and sits in her chair
ANN
It does not matter what I know, people thinks she did it
APERRY
That is because you won’t release the evidence, give Bankole the picture and let him use it to save his sister
ANN
And implicate Wemimo, no, thank you
Appery sighed deeply in frustration
APERRY
Do you think Wemimo will want this? For his wife to go to jail for something she didn’t do
ANN
Ex-wife, Aperry, she is his ex-wife and since we are talking about what Wemimo wants. He wants me to protect KINGS
APERRY
Still, he won’t want her to go to jail, she is the mother of his kids
She suddenly stands up and snaps at him angrily
ANN
He does not care… yes, she is the mother of his kids but he does not give a fuck about her anymore. Why did you think he divorced her at the very last minute? The old Wemimo would have stuck by her and helped her out but this one left her and specifically told me to save KINGS
Ann sits down sighing deeply
ANN
The only way to save KINGS is by cutting every ties with Imade which Wemimo did before he left and I am here to make sure the ties remains severed. So please and please don’t try to tell me what he wants because this is exactly what he wants
APERRY
He does not know about the picture
ANN
(Raising her voice) That picture implicates him, why do you keep mentioning it
APERRY
It does not matter if it implicates him, you can always save him
ANN
I don’t understand why you talking like a fucking novice, Aperry, you have been working with me for so many years and yet, you don’t understand how the law fucking works.
APERRY
I know he has motive bu…
ANN
You know that and you are still telling me this, more than anyone in the world, you know Wemimo wanted that fucker died, we give Bankole that picture, Wemimo become the perfect suspect and when that happens, the shares of KINGS Corps crashes, how the fuck is that protecting KINGS
APERRY
Then help me find me the real killer, Ann, we can find him or her if we work together
ANN
Were you deaf when I told you that I am here to make sure the ties remains cut?
APERRY
She didn’t do this, Ann
ANN
Yes, she didn’t… but it is what it is
APERRY
Ann, plea…
ANN
We have had this discussion like a billion times already, I don’t know why you think my answer will change
APERRY
Ann…
ANN
(In annoyance) Get out, Aperry
Then she gently turned herself with the chair, facing the window. Few seconds later, she heard his footstep walking out of her office, closing the door behind him. Looking out into the buzzing road of Ibadan, Ann sighs heavily
ANN
This is your fault, Imade, it is all your fault
Next on Why?
ANN
I am always on the right side
IMADE
Which is always Wemimo’s side, for once, be on my side and support me
ANN
Okay now, do you want to divorce him?
