BANKOLE BABADE, a well groomed man, handsome young man with a caramel complexion stands tall in lawyer gown looking into the air. He appears to be in his early thirties and he is totally unaware of the happenings in his environment

JOSEPHINE ‘JO’ BABADE, a slim, fair, young woman also in her lawyer gown walks up to him. She appears to be in her late thirties too

JO

Banks!

She gets no response from him, then she taps him gently on the shoulder and that jolts him back to reality

BANKOLE

Jo!

JOSEPHINE

It is time

Bankole sighs heavily with worries, seeing his fear, she holds his hands

JO

It is gonna be okay

BANKOLE

What if the court rules against us the way appeal court did?

JO

Then we do regular trial

BANKOLE

My sister will go to jail with regular trial

JO

I am sure she knows that you have tried your best

He sighs heavily again

BANKOLE

Let go

INT- A COURTROOM-AFTERNOON

Everybody in the courtroom all rise when the judges enters. Everybody sits down except for the lawyers. The Chief Justice who is at the centre of them pushes forward on his seat and looks directly at Bankole

CHIEF JUSTICE

Bankole, that is your name right?

BANKOLE

Yes sir, Bankole Babade

CHIEF JUSTICE

I must say you have some guts coming into my court room

Bankole sighs deeply as his wife, Josephine holds for his hands for moral support

CHIEF JUSTICE

I mean two high ranking court already ruled against you and yet, here you are arguing the impossible. How old are you that you disturbing me like this?

Bankole bows his head in disappointment

CHIEF JUSTICE

Jury Trial is not a system used in Nigeria, I am sure other judges told you that, I don’t know why you think I will rule differently…..

Looking very unhappy, Bankole removes his hands from Jo and looks the Chief Justice in the eyes

BANKOLE

But it is in the con…

CHIEF JUSTICE

I am not here to argue with you but to deliver my verdict….

At this point, there was a deafening silence

CHIEF JUSTICE

I like the fact that you didn’t give up, young man

Bankole raises his head up with hope

CHIEF JUSTICE

Like I said, Jury Trial is not used in Nigeria but it is in the constitution. I will like to see how it goes

Jo looks at her husband smiling

CHIEF JUSTICE

You are permitted to go ahead

Jo hugs her husband with happiness as the court clerk calls All Rise

EXT. OUTSIDE THE COURT ROOM-AFTERNOON

As Bankole and Jo walks out of the courtroom to see a crowd of reporters waiting for them

JO

I think it is best we go through the back

BANKOLE

They doubled back and proceed to pass through another way but falls into the hands of another set of reporters

Jo and Bankole tries to wiggle their way out as questions keeps springing from different reporters

3rd REPORTER

Do you think that the citizens of Nigeria will set your sister free after what she did to her husband?

At this particular question, Bankole turns to the reporters

BANKOLE

Bankole wants to respond but he is hold back by his wife, Jo

JO

Bankole ignores her anyway and talks to the reporters

BANKOLE

How about we leave the downfall of Imade King to the court

And he leaves with Jo

Next on Why?

BANKOLE

Do you want the truth?

IMADE

Been truthful and straightforward is what makes you Bankole Babade

BANKOLE

The chances of me getting you acquitted is as low as 10 percent

IMADE

You told me that before but with the jury w….

BANKOLE

With the jury trial, we have 10 percent. With Nigeria’s regular way of justice, you are going to jail

I guess the whole point of this is that you don't give up, someone once told me that the only way to fail is to give up and I key into that. So don't give up, no matter how hard it is for you. Even though Bankole didn't give up, I can feel that he is going to have a tough time. How about you stick to dramacourt and how find out if his will is really strong or he is just trying to be strong
