EPISODE 18

INT. IMADE’S HOUSE- IN THE DEAD OF THE NIGHT

Inside their bedroom, Imade sits on the bed with a blanket covering her lower torso as she studies a course handout. She looks at the clock which is says 1.23am. She places the handout on the bed and moves to stands up when Wemimo comes in with a small towel on his neck

He wears a thin white vest with budge trouser and using the small towel to clean the water on his head and face

IMADE

I was coming to look for you, I thought you were kidnapped

He smiles at her

WEMIMO

Sorry, I am just so tired

IMADE

I am sorry about today

WEMIMO

About what?

IMADE

KINGS, the label…. Ann

WEMIMO

It is fine, you made the decision as the boss

IMADE

I don’t have to be, hell I don’t want to be. You have no idea how scary it was to choose between you and Ann

WEMIMO

And yet you still make a rational decision and that makes you a good boss.

IMADE

I still believe you should be the boss, this is your baby

Wemimo sits on the table

WEMIMO

You mean our baby, KINGS or whatever the name is, is in existence because of you. You gave me the inspiration

IMADE

And yet you do all the work

WEMIMO

You do the most important one, it is only fair that you are the boss

He picks the mat from under the bed and proceed to spreads it on the floor

IMADE

Come to the bed

WEMIMO

Hmmm

IMADE

I said come to the bed

WEMIMO

Don’t worry about me

IMADE

I am not a bad person, so don’t make me one. You have been working with your head bent since morning. I am sure your body must be aching you

WEMIMO

I don’t want to make you uncomfortable

IMADE

I understand that but how long are you going to keep sleeping on the floor?

WEMIMO

I was thinking till we get our own place, so we can both have different room

IMADE

Till then, come and sleep on the bed

Wemimo folds the mat together and goes to sleep on the bed. He moans in relief when his head touches the pillow

WEMIMO

This actually feels good

IMADE

You are welcome

Wemimo closes his eyes

IMADE

After tomorrow, what is your plan?

Wemimo opens his eyes again

WEMIMO

What plan?

IMADE

For Kings, after you deliver the dresses to your sister tomorrow, what next for KINGS?

WEMIMO

I don’t know. I need to pay Aunty Bebii and Shehu their balance, wire some money to Bintu and get something for Ann. Even though, she is devious and cunning, she came through for me big time

IMADE

I meant what happens to KINGS next? What is your next plan for what you started?

WEMIMO

You mean what we started?

IMADE

(Smiles softly) What we started

WEMIMO

I don’t know but as for us, we prepare for school

Imade smiles as she looks Wemimo

IMADE

Yeah school, final year right?

WEMIMO

Yeah final year

IMADE

There is a chance that I will give birth during my IT

WEMIMO

That is great, you will be able to take care of yourself and the baby

IMADE

I just miss our old life, where we just study and crash parties

WEMIMO

We can still study together but I don’t know about crashing parties. I might have to pick up some private lesson job…. Why are you not asking about your share? I am paying everybody, why are you not asking for yours?

IMADE

You have done a lot for me, I won’t mind designing for you all my life for free

WEMIMO

After paying all expenses, the profit we get is small, so I figured that we can use it to pay our school fees

IMADE

Ah! School fees

WEMIMO

We can’t ask Maami to pay for us. I am going to take up some part time jobs, that way we won’t depend on Maami for our daily expenses. Hopefully, if we are lucky, we get opportunities to sew more clothes, we can save from that

IMADE

Maybe I should sell some of my designs

Wemimo sits upright

WEMIMO

What?

IMADE

I can make more of it

WEMIMO

(In a stern voice) Don’t you ever think of selling your designs?

IMADE

But the money can help us

WEMIMO

If I have to start bricklaying, I will. Don’t just sell your designs, please don’t

IMADE

Alright

WEMIMO

And don’t gave Ann your designs again

IMADE

She is going to be pissed

WEMIMO

She will get over it

A very long silence

IMADE

I couldn’t have done this without you… Thank you, Wemimo

She looks at him and sees him peacefully sleeping. She smiles at him and covers him properly with the blanket

I am saying keep an open mind about a life without Imade

WEMIMO

I don’t want to and that is why I am going to do whatever it takes to protect my family
