CHAPTER TEN
The Glass House
The instant I got into the car, my eyes became drowsy, threatening to shut itself but I couldn’t let it do that. I might have blackmailed Fazya into agreeing to a ridiculous deal, that doesn’t mean they won’t try to ship me back to Nigeria despite my threat or even worst…. send me to coal mine deep in an African Country never to be seen again.
So, no matter how bad I desperately want to close my eyes and sleep, I need to be at alert, no one here is my friend.
I am all alone and I can’t believe it took me this long to realize that fact.
After spending about an hour and thirty minutes, we entered a bustling street and I caught the name of this place on a signboard when we stopped for the red light
Eureux city, France
Wow! I am in another city. Kylian must really hate my face since he decided to house me in a city different from his. We spent about an hour going through the city and another hour on the expressway where the only view I had was moving trees and occasionally, moving cars going in a opposite direction of our car.
Soon after, the car turned and we were going up what felt like a hill, when I looked outside, there was nobody except for green plants and if I was not diagnosed with partial astigmatism, I would probably see one of those nasty ass looking snakes I see on Nat Geo Wild back at home or even one of those wild animals, maybe like lion or tiger if they are in this part of Europe or even my personal favourite, cheetah
I am isolated and I am hours away from Kylian. I got his message, don’t ever come looking me and I won’t.
Thanks to my deal, he will come looking for me. Few minutes later, the car slowly came to a stop before a gate. As we go through the gate, I could see it was a gigantic gate.
The car goes into the garage and parks. Alice led me through a door into a house which I would call heaven because of its insane décor but I couldn’t because it was my prison. An elderly brunette woman and a young dirty blonde lady comes out to greet me in apron.
Seems I am getting some of Kylian’s five star chefs.
“Good Afternoon ma’am” the elderly lady greeted. If I am to guess her age, I would say she would be in a late fifties, early sixties and the young lady, in her twenties, I am definitely older than she is…. maybe by two or three years.
I really need to stop judging people by how they look
“Good Afternoon, Ma’am” I responded
“I am Maria and this is my daughter, Isabelle” she continued and pointed to the young lady who slightly bowed her head as what I would called a sign of respect to me
“You are welcome, ma’am, Please call me Isa” Isa said. So mother and daughter…. Her father must be blonde
“We are in charge of your meal and there is also Esaia who….” Maria tried to explain before I cut in
“We can table the introductions for now, I will love to freshen up and maybe get something to eat, I am famished”
“Of course” The elderly woman nodded “Isa…”
“Please come with me, Ma’am” Isa instructed, I looked around and Alice was nowhere to found, so was my luggage. Isa lead me away from Maria into a room.
“Please if you need anything, you just have to press that button and I will here” she pointed to the switch by the wall
“Okay, thank you” she goes out, shutting the door herself. I locked the door, I have to be careful, they may smile to me but they still work for Fazya and that spiteful Melissa.
I fell on the bed and groaned at the softness of the bed with my eyes closed. I know I am suppose to stand up and wash the prison grim from my body. Maybe eat something too but my legs just won’t cooperate and my eyes won’t open
I opened my eyes and the first object it landed on was the wall clock
8.38…. Am or Pm?
I felt weary and I really want to sink back into the bed and resume my sleep but I am hungry and I need to freshen up. I ran my tongue on my teeth and it was filled with grim, I haven’t washed my teeth in over 24 hours. I dragged myself out of bed and went to window. I was greeted by a crimson golden moon. I looked at the wall clock again
So 8.41pm
I stared into the mirror in my bathroom as I brush my teeth and I noticed my braid needs to come out, but I don’t have time for that now. Minutes later, I went out of my bedroom and tried to retrace my step to where I meet Maria and her daughter earlier. Going around, I noticed the house was big and beautiful.
After my little tour, I entered the kitchen which my Mama will really love to have. This is the kind of kitchen I see in movies. It has everything, every kind of utensil I knew about and didn’t know that. There was so many fridges
I opened the first fridge next to me and it housed different kinds of food plastics. I opened one and I saw something I didn’t recognise. Opened another, same story. I didn’t bother opening another before it would also contain food I cannot eat. Then I opened another fridge, it was stocked with bottled juice and water. I opened another fridge, I spot a loaf of bread.
I groaned in frustration. I haven’t been eating well this past month. My tongue has been devoid of pepper due to the takeout I am have been eating. I need pepper and as I much as I hate to eat bread this night, it is kind of the only food I can recognize. I took the bread and the container of mayonnaise I saw next to it. Maybe I can make hot tea with it. Then I saw the stove, I don’t even think I would call that a stove. Way too sophisticated and I don’t think I can operate that
“I give up” I grunted and settled for bread, mayonnaise but took out a bottle of both juice and water before entering my room which I discovered was on the ground floor.
I dropped the stuff in my hand on the bed before pushing the table in the room before the window. I looked up at the golden light in the room and I find it uncomfortable. I think I have gotten phobia for it emanating from been the only thing I could stare at in the hotel for more than a month. So, I opened the window to let in some moonlight which did nothing to eliminate the golden light in the room
I gently spread the mayonnaise over the bread and looked around. This room is really small, I mean you would think the master bedroom of a five million dollar house would be bigger than this. I also noticed that the closet was really tiny, like if Kylian comes around, he would probably use one side of his body to enter and which architect plan a house like this and put the master bedroom on the ground floor when it is not even a bungalow. Baba and Mama's master bedroom is bigger than this.
After my meal, I couldn’t just go back to bed. Back in Nigeria, I did that a lot and that is why I have slightly big belly…. but now, I have a husband that does not love me and if I want him coming back to me, I need to keep a perfect body.
I placed my laptop on the table and switched on. Cleaning my glasses, I waited for the laptop to finish booting. I wore my glasses and I started writing. Now that my head is less muddled with unanswered questions, I can finally think and write. I did that for couple of hours before going back to bed.
