I have been resting for 2 years……..”
The black woman walks into the first class part of the plane where there are few people in it. She walks toward her seat when she sees the white woman sitting close to her seat.
WHITE WOMAN: (smiling) we meet again
BLACK WOMAN: it seems so
She opens her luggage and brings out a book. The white woman opens her mouth in surprise as her eyes a book
WHITE WOMAN: you have Rere Shapiro
BLACK WOMAN: have you read it?
WHITE WOMAN: no, but have heard a lot about the book. I tried getting my own copy but could not because there were limited copies of the book
BLACK WOMAN: it is a long ride from here to Nigeria, do you want to read it?
WHITE WOMAN: if you will let me, I promise you that I will finish it before we land
BLACK WOMAN: (stretches the book to her) then take it
WHITE WOMAN: (she smiles as she collects the book) thank you (she looks at the front cover with Rere Shapiro written boldly on it. With excitement, she opens the book) Rereloluwa pulls her luggage across the lobby of Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport on the day the sun decides to cry after so many days of smiling with a great amount of heat.……(The white woman’s voice gradually fades into the background as the sound of aeroplane arriving and departing the airport comes into the background)

(There are many people in the airport. Those arriving and those departing, Rere happens to be part of the people arriving. She walks into the waiting room of the airport where she sees other passenger run into the waiting arms of their loved ones. She looks nostalgic as she watch them, then she turns to leave when she see ROTIMI ‘ROTI’ BELLO. Roti is a black young man in late 20s with average height. He looks smart and handsome in his fitted suit. They both smile as they walk toward each other)
Rere: (smiling) you look different
Roti: hello Rere, you look different too
Rere: you look dashing
Roti: with the kind of job we do, you need to look smart, serious and dashing before you can get the job done
Rere: you figured that out
Roti: (collects her luggage from her) yeah I did
Rere: I hope you spent the money I gave you well and not just on suits
Roti: trust me I did, let go home
Rere: no, I need you to keep me up to speed
Roti: but you just came back, you need to rest
Rere: I have been resting for two years. We don’t have a lot of time because the election is fast approaching, I am done resting
