The Witness

EXT. AT A GRAVESITE- EVENING

Wemimo and Bankole stands with some group of men with a white handkerchief wrapped round their head. Bankole watch as an Imam prays over the body wrapped in mat. He also watch as Shehu quietly rubs the tears in his eyes away as the body of his grandma is been lowered to the ground.

Few minutes later, Bankole makes eye contact and Shehu smiles sadly at him

BACK TO PRESENT

INT. ANN WADA’S LAWFIRM- MORNING

Bankole and Jo walks into a conference room gallantly, An older looking Shehu is seated on a chair and is been interrogated by TOBE AKUCHE, a partner at ANN WADA

AKUCHE

Relax Mr Gbadamosi, this is a safe space, I am just going to be asking you some possible questions you will be asked in court… that is all

Shehu nods

AKUCHE

So Mr Gbadamosi, you have known the accused for how long?

SHEHU

Fi…fi…fifteen years

AKUCHE

How will you describe the accused’s relationship with her husband?

BANKOLE

Ex-husband…you are a lawyer, you should get your facts right

AKUCHE looks up and sees Bankole. He does not look happy to see him

AKUCHE

What are you doing here?

BANKOLE

I am here to see the witness

AKUCHE

I am sure you can wait for him at the reception

BANKOLE

I will like to watch you interrogate the witness

AKUCHE

And why is that? We are not on the same side

BANKOLE

The accused is the CEO of KINGS who happens to be your biggest client, how are we not on the same side?

AKUCHE

Ex-CEO, you are a lawyer, you should get your facts right

Akuche sighs and faces Shehu

AKUCHE

Why not just make it a court, I mean I am the accused’s lawyer, you can be the opposing lawyer and we can trash it out and see how it goes

(Smirk) Unless of course, you don’t think you can beat me

AKUCHE

I am not going to play into your stupidity

BANKOLE

AKUCHE

You must be heartbroken now that you are no longer her golden boy

BANKOLE

And you will always be the replacement of her golden boy

Akuche looks pissed, Jo taps Bankole

Bankole, what are you doing?

Bankole ignores her and walks closer to Akuche and Shehu

BANKOLE

What does her relationship with her ex-husband have to do with this case?

AKUCHE

It attest to the character of the accused, her relationship with her ex-husband further solidifies her motive for killing the victim… at this point, I am sure the judge will say objection overruled

Bankole chuckles

BANKOLE

AKUCHE

Mr. Gbadamosi, please answer the question

SHEHU

AKUCHE
