EPISODE 15

 Another bad sex

INT. A RESTAURANT IN IBADAN- AFTERNOON

Ann sits in a natural heavily lighted restaurant going through some documents. There were few people in this restaurant having their lunch. Ann looks up in time to see Aperry walk into the restaurant

She raises her hand to signal to him

ANN

Over here

Aperry then changes direction and walks towards her. He unbuttons his suit as he sits down opposite her

APERRY

I hope I didn’t keep you waiting, something came up

She starts to clear up the documents before her

ANN

It is fine, I was getting some work done anyway

She signals to one of the waitress to come and the young lady makes her way to Ann

ANN

Menu please

The waitress hands a menu each to both of them. They both look through it

APERRY

It is my turn right?

ANN

Yes but don’t worry, I will cover it

Aperry suddenly looks up with seriousness

ANN

What?

APERRY

What do you want?

ANN

(Confused) What are you talking about?

APERRY

First, I came late, you said it was fine and now you are offering to cover lunch when it is my turn… You want something, what is it?

ANN

Can’t I be nice to…

APERRY

Spill, Ann

Ann sighed deeply then she turns to the waitress

ANN

I will call you when I am ready

The waitress nods and leaves. Ann lift up the duffin bag that was on the chair next to her to her thigh and brings out a new pack of cell phone and laptop

Aperry groan loudly in annoyance when he sees this

APERRY

Oh! Come on, is your husband back again?

She places her broken cell phone and laptop next to the new ones

ANN

Yes, he came back yesterday

APERRY

Another bad sex, I guess

ANN

Are you going to help me or not?

APERRY

Why not just give it to your firm’s IT guy?

ANN

You know there are information on it that no other eyes should see

Aperry rest back and looks at Ann with worry

APERRY

How long are you going to do this, Ann?

ANN

Do what?

APERRY

Stay in your marriage, it is obvious that you are miserable, so how long are you going to keep doing this?

ANN

What do you want be to do, divorce the man?

APERRY

Yes, divorce him, you are not happy with him

ANN

I won’t be a hypocrite, Aperry

APERRY

What does that have to do with anything?

ANN

Imade was in the same situation year ago, she is still in it and I am sure she just accepted her fate. I remember been so angry at her for wanting to get out, I won’t do what I preach against

APERRY

I can’t believe you just compared your marriage to Imade’s

ANN

Is there a difference? She is not happy, I am not happy but I don’t hear you asking her to leave him

APERRY

That is because Wemimo…

ANN

(Cuts in sharply) is different, is that what you are going to say

APERRY

No, I was going to say Wemimo gave his life to Imade, he lives for her and he is still living for her

ANN

Well, if it makes any difference, his family made my father the governor of this state, I am a governor’s daughter

APERRY

Like you care about that and that is for your father, what has he done for you except nag about the two of you living in different states

ANN

That is…

APERRY

You said there is no difference between Imade’s marriage and yours, well, let me tell you a glaring difference, Imade is who she is today all thanks to Wemimo. He gave her everything she has, he made her… You, you were already made before you met your husband

ANN

There is nothing you can say to make leave my husband, I won’t destroy my family, I won’t do that to my kids

APERRY

He only has one kid with you, Bankole is…

ANN

(Cuts in angrily) Enough, just enough, are you going to help me or not

APERRY

Of course, I will help you but this is the last time. The next time you let your emotions get the best of you, you better find another alternative

ANN

I will just give it to IT guy in my firm and if damning information about…

APERRY

Don’t you dare guilt trip me, if any confidential information about Wemimo gets out, that is on you and I will fucking make sure he knows that it is your fault

ANN

It won’t happen again, I promise

APERRY

Let it happen and it will be your mess to clean

She sighs lightly

ANN

When am I getting my phone?

APERRY

Tonight, I will bring it by your house. You will get your laptop tomorrow morning

ANN

Thank you

APERRY

I am covering lunch, I don’t need your bribe

She smiles then waves to the waitress to come

APERRY

A word of advice

ANN

I don’t want to hear it

APERRY

But you will, you need to decide on what you want before it gets too late

ANN

What is getting late?

APERRY

Bankole, you don’t exactly think that he will wait around forever right?

ANN

No woman is better for him than me

APERRY

I am going to ignore how selfish that makes you

ANN

After everything that has happened, whoever he gets to marry has to be someone better than I am, I owe him that much

APERRY

I don’t know if that is loyalty or you are just misguided but with or without you, that man will be married any moment from now

Ann looks at Aperry suspiciously

ANN

Do you know something I don’t?

APERRY

Just saying but you don’t exactly think he will be single forever, do you? You need to get your priority straight

ANN

My priority is keeping my family together and not some youthful love

APERRY

Whatever you say, Ann

He then turns to Waitress while Ann thinks about what she just heard

APERRY

I will have a plate of fried rice and chicken. I will also have moin moin too with a glass of red wine, Ann, what will you have?

Ann picks up the menu again and looks through it

Next on Why?

SISTER ELIZABETH

Are you saying you hate your own kids?

IMADE

I didn’t say that

SISTER ELIZABETH

Then what are you saying?

IMADE

I am saying the love I have for Wemi is different from the one I have for the girls
