EXT. AISHA’S COURTYARD- AFTERNOON
Aisha enters court with Emily behind her, Aisha sees Kuami run out of court towards her
KUAMI
She woke up
AISHA
What?
KUAMI
The girl, she woke up
Aisha smiles and runs into her room. She sees the robust, short, fair young girl sipping water from the hands of a servant. Aisha smiles widen as she runs to the girl
AISHA
Hey, how are you feeling?
The girl tries to speak but tears rolls down her eyes
AISHA
Hey, why are you crying?
She quickly sits on the bed and rubs the tears away from her eyes. The young girl starts to speak in a language that is strange to Aisha
AISHA
What is she saying?
KUAMI
She is speaking French and she said that she heard that you saved her
Aisha looks at Kuami with surprise
AISHA
You speak French?
KUAMI
I lived in Benin republic all my life, I was taken from Port Novo
AISHA
Oh I didn’t know that and tell her that I didn’t save her and if she wants to appreciate anybody, it should be the doctor and the nurses at the village clinic. They did the saving
Toba looks surprise at what Aisha is saying
TOBA
Don’t be so modest my lady, you totally saved her
Aisha looks at her servants, and Kuami smiles
KUAMI
We heard that the Khan gave you the permission to keep her. So you saved her
Kuami turns to the girl to translate what Aisha said. The young girl quickly hold Aisha’s hands and caresses them gently
KUAMI
She says thank you
AISHA
If you feel so grateful to me, how about you tell me your name and where you are from
Without translating to the girl, Kuami speaks directly to Aisha
KUAMI
Her name is Alice and she lived in Cotonou. I already asked her that before you came in
AISHA
Okay, so ask her how she got kidnapped?
Kuami translate to the girl, then the girl speaks to Kuami
KUAMI
She was coming back from hawking in the evening and then the next thing she knew, she was been dragged into a bus with a cloth over her nose. The next time she woke was in Muyanku with Omar who beat the crap out of her
Alice starts to cry but Aisha quickly hold her
AISHA
Why are you crying? You are safe now. That man will never hurt again. I will never let anybody hurt you again. I promise you that
Kuami translates to the girl, then she hugs Aisha tightly. Aisha hugs her back, then she looks at Emily who stand at a corner watching them
