On the road from Lagos 19: Coward 2

FLASHBACK- OBA-ABASS- 2 DAYS AGO

INT. AN OFFICE IN WILLIAMS CONGLOMERATE-UNKNOWN

Oba-Abass looks so haggard as he opens the door to an office, he ignores the warning of a secretary as he opens the door of another office. Behind a very large table is CLIFFORD WILLIAM, a chubby, fair old man also in his sixties and of average height. The secretary comes in after Oba-Abass as he walks towards Clifford and throws a piece of paper at him

OBA-ABASS

You are transferring me again?

SECRETARY

Sir I tried to stop him

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

Don’t worry, you may go back to your seat

OBA-ABASS

You promised to make me the Director of Planning after I fix the issue at Gbagada branch, now you are sending me to Zaria again

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

I know what I promised you but we need to start another branch at Zaria. The present one in Zaria does not have the capacity to meet the demands of our customers. You are the best person for this role

OBA-ABASS

You have got to let someone else try

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

Not with this new branch, if something goes wrong, we will lose a lot of money

OBA-ABASS

I am 63 Clifford, when will I have my rest if all I do is build branches from the scratch

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

3 years Oba, build and monitor the progress of this new branch for 3 years and I promise you to make you the Director of Planning

OBA-ABASS

At this point, you word means shit to me

Clifford Williams stands firm

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

But you are going to have to believe my so-called word. Now unless you want to be fired, you will as you are told

OBA-ABASS

So you want to fire me now, I thought I was the best person to do the job

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

Yes, I give you my word and I stand by it, this is your second to the last transfer. Your next transfer will be the headquarter, I promise you that

Oba-Abass walks away

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

Oba

Oba-Abass stops and faces him

CLIFFORD WILLIAM

Don’t you ever come in my office like that anymore, I am your boss and I demand your respect

Oba walks out

BACK TO PRESENT

INT. INSIDE MARCO POLO-NOON

Cece stands close to Oba-Abass waving her hand

CECE

Where were you?

OBA-ABASS

I don’t want to talk about Clifford but rather about the bad blood between you and Selma Johnson. Why do you hate her so much?

Cece rolls her eyes in disgust as she walks back to her seat and talks in a loud voice embedded with annoyance

CECE

Selma Johnson, Selma Johnson, Selma Johnson, I don’t want to talk about Selma Johnson

Oba-Abass looks at her in surprise, Cece relaxes

CECE

I am sorry but please can we not talk about Selma Johnson

REMILEKUN

How do you know my mom?

Cece and Oba-Abass looks back at her in confusion

CECE

Excuse me?

REMILEKUN

How do you know my mom, Selma Johnson?

CECE

And you are?

REMILEKUN

Her daughter, Remilekun Johnson

With a huge smile on Oba Abass, he stands up

OBA-ABASS

You are Remilekun, your mother told me a lot about you

Oba-Abass tries to hug her but she takes a step back

REMILEKUN

How did you two know my mom?

CECE

I remember you now, you were the rich spoilt brat who told the whole congregation at her mother’s funeral that her Father does not deserve to give her mother’s eulogy

OBA-ABASS

Oh I remember that too

Oba-Abass looks at Cece in surprise

OBA-ABASS

Wait, you were at the funeral?

Cece looks away as Rhema walks towards them in a hurry

RHEMA

Now I remember where I saw you, at your mother’s funeral

OBA-ABASS

You know Selma Johnson too?

She respond with a bright smile on her face

RHEMA

Yes I know her very well

Rhema turns to Remilekun and touches her hand

RHEMA

I was at her funeral and I remember talking to you

Remilekun removes her hand with disgust

REMILEKUN

I don’t remember talking to you and I certainly don’t remember giving you the permission to touch me

Remilekun turns to Oba-Abass and Cece

REMILEKUN

How did you know my mom?

OBA-ABASS

She was the in house counsel of the company before she passed away, she is a good woman and the best lawyer I know

Remilekun nods and face Cece

REMILEKUN

You? How did you know my mom?

CECE

I don’t have to tell you anything, I don’t have to tell a spoil brat who has no respect for her father and no regard for people anything

OBA-ABASS

Cece, the gir…….

Suddenly the Marco Polo goes down like it hits something
