EPISODE 59

What have you done?

INT. CLINIC- MORNING

Imade sits up on the bed while Wemimo and Ann watch the nurse removing the empty bag of drip and proceeds to replace it with another

IMADE

(exclaims) another one?

NURSE

This is the last one, I promise

WEMIMO

Don’t worry, it will be over soon

IMADE

Please can you change where you are putting the drip, this hand is paining me

NURSE

Sure

Wemimo and Ann watch the nurse connect the drip to the other hand. Bankole comes in with a sheet of paper while this is going on and he stretches the paper to Ann

BANKOLE

This was what you asked for

Ann collects it as she sits on the chair next to Imade’s bed

ANN

Let me see

Ann studies the paper

ANN

You have a B2 in Yoruba, why?

BANKOLE

Because it is not relevant and I don’t need it

WEMIMO

Every subject is important, why will you say that?

BANKOLE

I don’t need it to study law

ANN

It does not matter, you decided to offer it. You should have given your best to it.

WEMIMO

Have you done Yoruba?

BANKOLE

No

WEMIMO

Then prepare for it like you will for government

Bankole gives no response

ANN

I think your next answer should be okay

Bankole looks everywhere except at Ann and Wemimo

ANN

You are hiding something, what is it?

WEMIMO

Bankole, what is it?

BANKOLE

I didn’t register for it in WAEC

Ann opens her mouth in shock

ANN

What? Why?

BANKOLE

Because I don’t need it, I want to focus my attention on the subjects I actually need

ANN

Oh my God..... can this be fixed?

WEMIMO

There is no fixing it, you know that

Ann faces Imade

ANN

This is all your fault

IMADE

How is it my fault?

ANN

Because if you hadn’t broken up with us, none of these would have happened

WEMIMO

I thought we said we are not going to pass blame anymore

Ann resumes studying the report sheet

ANN

And why do you have 90 in government, you had 92 last semester, I mean last term

BANKOLE

My note got stolen and that is 5 mark

WEMIMO

So what did you study for the exam?

BANKOLE

My jottings and moreover, 90 is still an A

ANN

Why are you two siblings gullible like this? Don’t you know that if your mock score drops, there is a chance that your WAEC score will drop too?

IMADE

Ann, I am right here

The nurse finishes with the drip and proceeds to leave the room with a tray. She meets Madam Babade at the door and they both exchanges greetings

Imade sits up as Madam Babade comes in with a food cooler while Ann stands up from her chair for Madam Babade.

MADAM BABADE

Ose Anike (Thank you Anike)

Madam Babade sits on the chair, Wemimo sits next to Imade on the bed while Ann and Bankole stands

MADAM BABADE

Bawo ni ara eh (How is your body?)

IMADE

Ara mi ti bale, ti moba gba drip yii tan, mo le ma lole (I feel better now, I can go home when I finish this drip)

MADAM BABADE

Oda na (That is good)

She points to the food cooler on the table

MADAM BABADE

Mo gbe ounje wa fun iwo ati awon ore eh, kewa jeun (I brought food for you and your friends, you should come and eat)

WEMIMO

Ese ma (Thank you ma)

MADAM BABADE

Iwo lo ye ki ma so ose si (I should be telling you thank you) Bankole wa lo romi wa (Bankole come and buy water)

Bankole collects money from Madam Bankole and proceeds to go out

ANN

Bankole, let talk about your CRK score

BANKOLE

(Exclaims) oh God!

Ann follows Bankole out while an elderly nurse comes in

ELDERLY NURSE

Mama Imade

Madam Babade stands up when she sees the nurse

MADAM BABADE

Mama Nurse, ekaaro ma (Mama Nurse, good morning)

Without smiling, the nurse responds

ELDERLY NURSE

E kaaro ma (Good Morning)

MADAM BABADE

E de seun omo mi ohh (Thank you fo taking care of my daughter)

The nurse sighs deeply and faces Imade speaking harshly

ELDERLY NURSE

Imade, o doju timi gan ohh (Imade, I am disappointed in you)

Imade sits up looking confused with Wemimo in the same dilemma

MADAM BABADE

Mama Nurse, kini Imade se? (Mama Nurse, what did Imade do?)

ELDERLY NURSE

Imade ti loyun ose mefa (Imade is six weeks pregnant)

MADAM BABADE

Eehnnn!

Wemimo opens his mouth in shock as he faces Imade who is equally shocked

WEMIMO

Imade, what have you done?

MADAM BABADE

Mama Nurse, kile sope Imade se yii (Mama Nurse, what did you say Imade do?)

ELDERLY NURSE

Ti ara yi ba ti bale, e wa rimi ni lori kaunta. Ka le soro antenatal (when you are calm, you should come and meet me at the counter, so that we can talk about antenatal)

The nurse looks at Imade again

ELDERLY NURSE

O doju timi gan (I am really disappointed in you)

The nurse leaves and Madam Babade faces Imade with tear running down her eyes

MADAM BABADE

Imade, antenatal, wo ni kawa soro antenatal (She said we should come and talk of Antenatal)

She lunges at Imade and starts to beat her. Wemimo did his best to protect Imade from her. He looks at Madam Babade as the woman sobs her heart out while talking to Imade

MADAM BABADE

Mo so oh, Imade (I talked to you Imade) mo so so so, sibesibe o si doju timi (I talked and I talked and yet you still decide to bring shame to me)

Imade starts to cry at this point

MADAM BABADE

Tani baba omo ale inu ehh (Who is the father of the bastard you are carrying?)

Imade didn’t talk, Madam Babade becomes pissed

MADAM BABADE

Abi ori eh o pe, ani tani baba omo ale ehh? (Are you crazy, I said who is the father of your bastard?)

Imade still remain silent looking confused and Madam Babade lunges at her the second time but this time Wemimo shields Imade with his body and hold Madam Babade back

WEMIMO

I am the father of the baby

MADAM BABADE

Eehhh

Madam Babade looks at Wemimo in disbelief while Imade opens her mouth in shock

IMADE

What?

Next on Why?

IMADE

Mother asked me not to come home until I bring the father of my baby

WEMIMO

I told her that I am the father, why i…

IMADE

She knows you are not the father, even if a blind man knows that
