Silence

INT. THE KINGS MANOR- NIGHT

Imade designs on her sketch pad in her atelier when Wemimo’s call come in. she ignores it and continues her work. The phone keeps ringing non-stop and she keeps ignoring it. Then, it stops ringing

Few minutes later, the Butler comes in with her phone

HEAD BUTLER

There is a call for you from Mr. King, ma’am

IMADE

(Without looking up from her design) I am unavailable

HEAD BUTLER

But Mr. King wants…

Imade raises her eyes and glares at her

HEAD BUTLER

(Puts the phone to her ear) She is unavailable, sir… I am sorry sir… Alright then, good night sir

IMADE

If there is nothing else to tell me, get out

HEAD BUTLER

But Ma’am, you can’t just ignore…

IMADE

Don’t test me tonight, Ms. Franklin. Whatever advice you are about to give me, shove it up your ass and get the fuck out

The elderly woman unfazed by Imade’s utterance looked at Imade like she still has more to say. She looks up at the butler

IMADE

Did I stutter?

HEAD BUTLER

I just thin..

IMADE

Say one more word, I dare you

Resigned, Ms. Franklin moves towards the door

IMADE

The next time, you decide to insert yourself into my marriage or question my decision in this house, I will fire you.

She turns back to her boss to defend herself

HEAD BUTLER

It is not my intention to question your decision

IMADE

That is exactly what you intend to do and it is not your fault. Wemimo gave you too much autonomy and that is why you think you can boss me around

HEAD BUTLER

I just here to help you, ma’am

IMADE

I am happy you know that, you are just the help and I am your fucking boss. Do well to remember your place next time

HEAD BUTLER

I am sorry ma’am

Imade dismisses her nonchalantly with her hand. Ms Franklin opens the door and finds the twin at the entrance with the first aid kit

HEAD BUTLER

Why are you two here?

JOWA

Mom is hurt

HEAD BUTLER

(Looks back at Imade with worries) You are hurt?

Imade stands up instantly and moves towards the door

IMADE

(Yells) I thought I told you to get out

She pulls her kids in, pushes the woman out and bangs the door in her face. She waits for a few seconds, listening to the butler’s footstep as she walks away. Then, she turns to her kids

IMADE

Why are you two here?

JOWA

Mom hurt

TAWA

Bad man hurt you

Panics creeps through Imade’s soul and mind hearing her kids talks about her confrontation with Micheal. She bends to their height

IMADE

Have you talked to your dad about him?

The two shook their heads

IMADE

Good, you can’t tell dad

TAWA

But he hurt you

IMADE

It is just a misunderstanding, he thought I was someone else.

TAWA

He mentioned your name

IMADE

(Becoming frustrated) Someone else with my name, he thought I was someone he knows because of my name. Dad is not going to understand that, he will fight the man

The two girls stares at their mother confused

IMADE

(Seeing their confusion) If you tell dad, I will be angry, very angry. Do you want me to be angry with you?

They shook their heads again

IMADE

Good and I will take you for more ice cream

The two girls smile and then, she finally relaxes

IMADE

My hand hurts, who wants to play doctor?

The two girls runs to the first aid kit as Imade crashes to the floor releasing the heavy breath she didn’t even know she was holding

SISTER ELIZABETH

IMADE

Trust me, I feel terrible about it but I had no choice

SISTER ELIZABETH

IMADE
