You need him by your side
EXT. SUYA BAR- NIGHT
(Rere enters into the suya bar where she meets the president. She looks around and sees Nate waving to her)
Nate: (smiling) over here
Rere: (walks towards him) good evening Mr President
Nate: have your seat (she sits down) what will you eat and drink?
Rere: I am fine Mr President
Nate: why? Are you still angry with me over our little spite
Rere: I am not angry because of any spite, I am mad because you didn’t trust me
Nate: what would you have done if you were in my shoes? Think of it, if you had not done whatever it is that you do, my chances of bringing those scientists were slim to none
Rere: but still, you should have trusted my skills to handle the case
Nate: but I do now, which is why I am telling you that you have the job
Rere: of course I do
Nate: my point is that, I am sorry for treating you like that
Rere: apology accepted
Nate: so now what will you eat?
Rere: how about we talk business first?
Nate: of course (smiling) so what is the first step we need to take?
Rere: first and foremost, we need funds
Nate: funds?
Rere: yes, is there a chance in hell that the party will release funds to you
Rere: that means we will have to look into getting funds ourselves.
Nate: how about I use my money?
Rere: how much do you have?
Nate: let say enough to fund my election
Rere: no matter how many billions you have in your account, funding your own election is a waste of money. So I will look into people and companies that will sponsor your election
Nate: alright
Rere: how many regions are you sure will vote for you at the primary?
Nate: frankly speaking I don’t know
Rere: not even Bashorun?
Nate: no
Rere: well you need him to deliver the south-west votes, so find a way to lock him down. Make promises that yourself know that you can’t fulfil
Nate: I have a plan
Rere: please tell me that getting your son married to his daughter is not the plan
Nate: well it is part of the plan but I have other measures to get him on my side
Rere: I would have love to know those measures but dealing with your Bashorun is your work
Nate: I know that (Rere puts her hand into her purse and brings out a note pad and a pen. She scribbles something on the note pad and tears the page from the note pad before returning the note pad and the pen into her purse. She passes the paper to Nate who looks at the paper and looks up at Rere in confusion) what is this?
Rere: that is my fee
Nate: your fee?
Rere: yes, for getting your bill approved and making the Congo incident go away
Nate: I thought you were challenging yourself?
Rere: yes, I was but I need to pay my staffs
Nate: you have staffs?
Rere: of course I do, I didn’t get you bill passed alone. I have a floor filled with people that work for me. I am not a lone wolf
Nate: but this is a lot
Rere: I know it is, but if you want the best, you are going to have to pay for it
Nate: if this the price for passing my bill and bringing those scientists back home, how much will you collect monthly?
Rere: half of that
Nate: (chuckles) this is a lot of money
Rere: come on, Mr President, you know it is worth it
Nate: (sigh deeply) I guess underneath the fee is your account number?
Rere: yes
Nate: I will wire the money to your account tomorrow
Rere: thank you
Nate: so now what will you eat?
Rere: one more thing
Nate: what is it?
Rere: your son
Nate: what about Alex?
Rere: you need him by your side
Nate: (confuse) why will I need Alex?
Rere: he is a good attorney that goes toe to toe with multibillionaire companies and wins. He does pro bono cases for people that cannot afford his prices, and for that, people love him. If the people see him by side your side during the period of this election, the trust they have in him will be transferred to you no matter how horrible you were during your first tenure
Nate: you speak like you know him
Rere: yes I do, I dated him
Nate: (smiling) Really?
Rere: yes, I wanted to work for you and I needed to know the kind of person you are
Nate: you must be the lady he told me about (pause) and what did he tell you about me?
Rere: that is not the issue here Mr President, you need your son
Nate: he has not been picking my calls for sometimes now
Rere: (stands up and picks her purse from the table) he is your son, find a way to bring him to your side
Nate: you are leaving?
Rere: (turns to leave) yes, I have an appointment
Nate: What is the second thing you want? You said you will ask me
Rere: I will, on the day you become the presidential candidate for your party (she turns and leaves)
