APERRY

Are you really going to let her go to jail?

ANN

Am I really going to let her go to jail… why are you making it sound like I put her in jail, like I set her up?

APERRY

She didn’t do this, Ann and you know that

ANN

It does not matter what I know, people think she did it

APERRY

That is because you won’t release the evidence, give Bankole the picture and let him use it to save his sister

ANN

And implicate Wemimo, no, thank you

*

*

*

*

IMADE

Do you also know what else has gone for far too long? Your fucking obsession with my husband

BINTU

Excuse me?

IMADE

Yes, I know I stole the love of fucking miserable life but darling, it’s been 15 years. (Yells) Let it fucking go

BINTU

You don’t know what you are talking about

IMADE

And this is my fucking house and when you are coming to visit, have the courtesy to fucking inform me first

*

*

*

*

BANKOLE

Damn it, Ann, answer the fucking question, is Brother Wemimo into money laundering? Yes or no, it is not that hard

ANN

If you are that interested in knowing, why don’t you ask him yourself? Let me guess, you can’t

BANKOLE

Oh! I can, I am just saving him the embarrassment of calling him a criminal

*

*

*

*

MICHEAL

I love you, Imade

IMADE

You can’t say that, Micheal, you can’t tell me you love me when we are married to different people

MICHEAL

But I do…. You are my world, the same way my kids are my world and I will do anything for them, the same way I will do anything for you. My life has been colourless without you all these years. The bond we shared, I tried to regain that bond with my wife but I couldn’t because you are the only woman for me

IMADE

You must be crazy

MICHEAL

Yes, crazily in love with you…. tell me to stop, Imade and I will stop

*

*

*

*

ANN

This is unfair

BANKOLE

What is unfair was finding out that the woman I love with my whole heart was getting married to another man when I was studying in Boston from another mouth which was not hers. She didn’t even had the decency to break up with me

*

*

*

*

WEMIMO

No, I can’t let you go

IMADE

Like you have a choice

WEMIMO

Actually I do, you leave KINGS, everything you own will be taken from you

IMADE

You can take the cars, I don’t care about them

WEMIMO

Not just the cars, your shoes, your bags, your clothes, everything you got with the help of KINGS Corp, including your shares

*

*

*

*

ANN

Since when do you care about what people say?

BANKOLE

Since I heard people saying I slept my way to the top

ANN

You didn’t

BANKOLE

Well, they don’t know that

*

*

*

*

SISTER ELIZABETH

I know you feel terrible about this, I know that but you need to talk to Wemimo

IMADE

I can’t, I will lose everything

SISTER ELIZABETH

You are not losing everything, you will still have your kids and your business

*

*

*

*

ANN

I don’t want to hear it

APERRY

But you will, you need to decide on what you want before it gets too late

ANN

What is getting late?

APERRY

Bankole, you don’t exactly think that he will wait around forever right?

ANN

No woman is better for him than me

APERRY

I am going to ignore how selfish that makes you

*

*

*

*

IMADE

Micheal, whatever you are planning you need to stop, you will get hurt

MICHEAL

Is that concern I detect?

IMADE

I am in love with you, of course I am concerned. You are not the first person to come for him and you won’t be the last. It does not always fare well for his enemies

*

*

*

*

ANN

Are you deaf? I said I can’t

APERRY

I know you want the best for him but you are refusing to see the magnitude of the issue here, this could destroy the relationship between Wemimo and Bankole if he decides not to turn a blind eye

ANN

Not if I make him play ball

APERRY

How? By fucking him

*

*

*

*

ANN

If he wants to keep choosing Presidents, Governor, Senators, then he can’t depend on KINGS

BANKOLE

Does he really need them in his pocket? I mean, he is richer than most of them

ANN

Money without power is nothing because power moves money and those fucking politician owes it, but when he owe those politicians, then he owes their power. Moreover, let it go, he is not hurting anyone

BANKOLE

Maybe not anyone but what about my faith in him, my respect, my trust in him

*

*

*

*

WEMIMO

Come on, Imade, it is just a small misunderstanding

IMADE

Small misunderstanding? Don’t patronize me, Wemimo. I am sure she wanted me gone like the others and she cut me out the first chance she got

WEMIMO

What are you talking about? She wanted you gone? Leaving KINGS has always been what you wanted, so she thought you were gone for good, just the way you wanted.

IMADE

Even if I was gone for good, she should grovel at my feet and beg me not to go but I guess she thinks I am no longer needed in making millions for KINGS

WEMIMO

Grovel at your fear, beg you… When did you become so proud, Imade?

*

*

*

*

BANKOLE

That is because am not, even if I am, it is none of your business

ANN

The fuck is not my business, I have invested too much in you for to end up with just any girl

BANKOLE

Invest in me?

ANN

Yes, I have and I am still doing that. As old as you are, Wemimo is still investing in you. Your stakes in KINGS makes you a millionaire, now with all of that, I am not about to let you marry a woman not good enough for you

BANKOLE

And what is your definition of a woman good enough for me? Someone like you? Someone who will abandon me?

EPISODE 43

Private collection

INT. THE KING’S MANSION – MIDNIGHT

Imade tosses and turns on the couch she lies on in the basement. After a while of not being able to catch any sleep, she stands up and leaves the basement.

A few minutes after walking around the house, she enters her atelier, another ridiculously large room filled with mannequins. Some are clothed while some are not.

She sits behind the table and starts to draw clothing designs till daybreak. When she sees the sunrise, she cracks her neck and picks up her cellphone.

IMADE
(Speaks into her cellphone) Come to the atelier

Imade continues to draw. A few minutes later, someone knocks on the door and the Head Butler comes in.

HEAD BUTLER
Good morning, ma’am

IMADE
Good morning, Ms. Franklin

HEAD BUTLER
I didn’t know you slept here

IMADE
I didn’t sleep at all

HEAD BUTLER
Is everything okay?

IMADE
Yes, everything is okay. Where is Wemimo?

HEAD BUTLER
In his room

IMADE
Please go to my closet and get me my bathroom kit, makeup bag, and something to wear

HEAD BUTLER
Is something wrong with your bathroom, ma’am?

IMADE
When did you start asking me questions, Ms. Franklin?

HEAD BUTLER
I am sorry, ma’am. What clothes should I bring?

IMADE
Anything worthy enough for me to wear to the hospital

HEAD BUTLER
Alright, ma’am

The Head Butler turns to leave.

IMADE
Ms. Franklin!

HEAD BUTLER
Yes, ma’am

IMADE
Please, when I am out, I need you to take this sketch pad to Dupe. She knows what to do with it

HEAD BUTLER
Alright, ma’am

The butler leaves as Imade picks her phone up again.

IMADE
(Speaking to her phone) Dupe, good morning

DUPE
(Yawns loudly) Good morning, Ms. King

IMADE
I hope I didn’t wake you up

DUPE
It’s fine, it’s time I’m up anyway

IMADE
Ms. Franklin will send some designs to you today

DUPE
For your private collection?

IMADE
Yes, I want you and only you working on it

DUPE
Okay

IMADE
Send me your bill

DUPE
Okay. Does it mean I can send the designs for your last collection to KINGS?

IMADE
Not until you complete this new one

DUPE
Okay

IMADE
Do I still need to stress the need for discretion on those designs?

DUPE
Trust me, no need. The last thing I need is Mr. King on my ass

IMADE
Good. Talk to you later

She hangs up.

INT. THE KING’S MANSION – MORNING
Fully dressed for her outing, Imade walks down the stairs and then suddenly stops when she hears laughter coming from the dining room. She goes into the dining room and looks surprised to find Bankole sitting at the table with a plate of white rice and stew in front of him. Wemimo sits next to him at the head of the table.

BANKOLE
Hello, sister

IMADE
When did you arrive?

BANKOLE
Last night

IMADE
I didn’t know

BANKOLE
It was pretty late when I arrived

WEMIMO
You are going out?

IMADE
Yes

WEMIMO
Where?

IMADE
Out

WEMIMO
About yesterday?

IMADE
Please, Wemimo, not now

Bankole senses the tension between them.

BANKOLE
Is everything okay?

IMADE
Yes, and I know you are busy, Bankole, but show your face once in a while. I almost forgot your face

BANKOLE
I am sorry. Lest I forget, the invitation is out

IMADE
The wedding invitation?

BANKOLE
Yes. Jo said to ask for your guest list so we can send it to them

WEMIMO
I will ask Ms. Franklin to compile a list and send it to you

IMADE
You are really doing this without Ann, Bankole

WEMIMO
Not again, Imade

IMADE
I am talking to my brother and not you, Wemimo

BANKOLE
I know it’s not my business, but I have to ask again—are you guys okay?

IMADE
We are fine

BANKOLE
Brother Wemimo?

WEMIMO
It’s nothing, we’ll get over it

IMADE
I get that Ann is a lot, but you need to tell her

BANKOLE
She is going to try to get between Jo and me

IMADE
But going behind her is not the answer. And if Ann can destroy what you two have, maybe your next step in your relationship shouldn’t be marriage

BANKOLE
I know where you are coming from, but trust me, this is for the best

IMADE
Fine. Then invite Jo for dinner this Sunday

BANKOLE
That will be a little difficult. I will be going with Brother Wemimo to Atlanta this weekend

She looks at her husband before looking back at Bankole.

IMADE
Why?

BANKOLE
The tech company acquisition. Ann is letting me head it

IMADE
So you will be going with Anita Macaulay?

BANKOLE
Yes… I mean, she is Brother Wemimo’s partner

IMADE
(Speaks to her husband) So you are going to Atlanta this weekend, and you didn’t think to tell me?

WEMIMO
Well, you wouldn’t let me

IMADE
(Sarcastically) Have a safe trip

She turns and leaves.

Next on Why?

IMADE

Why not? You know it starts from little things like that and those things are called signs. I am telling you what I saw and you are here brushing it off like it is nothing

SISTER ELIZABETH

Imade, wait

IMADE

You don’t think he is capable of cheating, is that it? You think he is too perfect to cheat. He is human too in case you forget, blood flows in his vain and he is bound to make mistakes

SISTER ELIZABETH

Why do I have the feeling that you want him to cheat to balance the scale, I mean you did cheated on him first
