EPISODE 51
Mummy's old school
INT. A UNIVERSITY CAMPUS IN IBADAN- EVENING
Young students walks up and down the university campus going about their business as Imade combs through her alma mater with her two kids in their school uniform. She stands in front of her one of her old lecture theatre which is filled with young students receiving lecture
VOICE
Imadeeee!
She looks back towards the direction of the voice and sees younger Wemimo and younger Ann waving with bright smile on their face. She smiles softly and waves back to them only to discover that they were not waving at her. She turns towards the direction they were waving out and sees her younger self running out of the lecture theatre with her school bag bouncing on her back as she runs
Her younger self runs back her to meet her friends then they walk away. With nostalgia, she smiles at this trio until she is distracted by Jowa
IMADE
Yes
JOWA
Where is this?
Imade turns to look back at the trio but they were gone and replaced with students unknown to her. She smiles softly and squats before her girls
IMADE
This… is mummy’s old school
TAWA
(Curious) Really?
IMADE
Yes and it is also daddy and Aunty Ann’s old school too
TAWA AND JOWA
Wowww!
Imade points to the lecture theatre they currently standing in front of
IMADE
That used to be my class
TAWA
Can we see it?
IMADE
Unfortunately no, there is a class going on at the moment but we might be lucky and your dad’s old class might be empty. So what do you say? Should we go and see it?
TAWA AND JOWA
Yes!
She holds their hands starts to walks away when she comes in contact with an old professor of hers, PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
PROFESSIOR AGUNLOYE
Imade Babade, is that you?
With a bright smile on her face, she goes down her knees
IMADE
Good evening, sir
He helps her up
PROFESSIOR AGUNLOYE
I thought I saw someone that looked like you.
IMADE
How have you been sir?
PROFESSIOR AGUNLOYE
Good, good… the last time I saw you was at your project defence presentation and that husband of yours… Oh! My mistake, you are no longer Imade Babade
IMADE
Yes sir
He turns his attention to the girls who clings to ther mother’s body
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
And who are these lovely damsels?
IMADE
These are my daughters, Tawalore and Jowaloju
The two girls goes on their knees to greet him
PROFESSIOR AGUNLOYE
Stand up, stand up, God bless you. Are they twin?
The girls stands up
IMADE
Yes, sir
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
I see you are doing a good job
IMADE
(Chuckles) Well, I think that praise belongs to my husband
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
It is really good to see you again
IMADE
And you too sir
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
My daughter looks up to you
IMADE
(With surprise) She is a fashion designer too?
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Yes, she is currently in London fashion school studying
IMADE
Well, if she come back to Nigeria, let her see me. I will link her up with my husband
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
That is highly appreciated but my daughter loves to make her own way without any handouts from anyone
IMADE
Wow! You did well with her too
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
But I am sure she will love to learn from the chief designer of KINGS
IMADE
I am no longer the chief designer of KINGS but she can always learn from me
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
You are no longer the chief designer of KINGS? Is everything okay?
IMADE
Yes, yes, everything is okay. I just… I just want to pursue my dream
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Your dream?
IMADE
Guidance counselling
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Oh!
IMADE
It has always been the dream but life got in the way. That is actually why I am here.
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Okay
IMADE
I want to go in the path of counselling but I am stuck, I don’t know what to do. So I thought coming here will inspire me into something
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Have you given any thought to lecturing, as the current HOD, I can employ you as an adjunct lecturer
IMADE
(With widen eyebrow) Really?
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Yes, if you are interested
IMADE
Of course, I am
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Then I am going to need your CV
IMADE
I don’t have it at the moment
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Send it to me this evening, where did you even do your Ph.d?
IMADE
(With a widen eyebrow) Ph.D? I don’t even have a master’s degree
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Then that will be a problem, the least qualification for any lecturer position is a master degree
IMADE
Maybe the next step I should take is getting a master’s degree
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
And you are in luck, a professor in New York University is currently taking master’s students. I will recommend you to him
IMADE
(Hesitates) New York?
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
Is there a problem?
IMADE
My girls are still young, I can’t leave them for New York
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
(Looks at the twin) That is true, they are at the stage where they need you the most… Too bad, this session admission is over
IMADE
I can wait till next year
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
You will?
IMADE
Time flies, you know
PROFESSOR AGUNLOYE
That is true, I will contact you when the next admission starts… let me have your number
They both exchange their contacts
Next on Why?
IMADE
Stop shouting at me, Ann defies your order a lot of time, especially when she think you are not been fair to yourself, so, Jo stays
WEMIMO
This is your brother we are talking about, don’t you feel sorry for him
IMADE
I would feel sorry, if I actually think Jo deserves him
