Rere Shapiro 20: Who is your enemy Rere? The President?

Who is your enemy Rere? The President?

INT. RERE’S OFFICE-MORNING
(Inside Rere’s office she was going through some files on her table when Roti comes in with a file in his hand)

Roti: (smiling) good morning this morning

Roti: how was your night?

Rere: great (passes a document to him) I need you to give me the names of the delegate that you think will not accept money

Roti: you want to start with them

Rere: yes, but I need to know their weakness, I want to know everything that makes them tick

Roti: you will get it by tomorrow morning

Rere: and I have seen the possible sponsors and I think Malcolm Energy and Gas is our sponsor

Roti: why Malcolm?

Rere: because they are desperate. They have been lobbying for the Monopoly of buying our oil for a long time, give them that and they will support us

Roti: and there is a reason why they don’t have it

Rere: whatever reason it may be, I don’t care. If letting them have the monopoly means getting money to fund the election, so be it

Roti: I don’t think this is a good idea

Rere: Roti?

Roti: I mean did you even consider other companies?

Rere: of course I did but we don’t have the time to convince them to sponsor the president when there is someone else that won’t waste my time (Roti looks unconvinced) I know you have your doubts Roti but I have no other choice

Roti: of course there are other choices but you are just not willing to consider them. I mean this is not your typical Nigerian company, it is a foreign company. Give them that monopoly and they will come back for more

Rere: (stands up and put a document inside her handbag) I have a meeting with the CEO

Roti: (looking surprised) so fast

Rere: I told you I have no time to waste

Roti: if you want a company to sponsor an election, you should meet the CEO, not the regional director

Rere: and I said I am meeting the CEO

Roti: he is in Nigeria?

Rere: yes. Fortunately for me, there is a biannual conference about petroleum and energy going on in Abuja and the CEO happens to be the guest speaker

Roti: (smiling) oh you have done your assignment, you ask me to this kind of things

Rere: (smiling) I knew you won’t agree with the choice I am about to make

Roti: I don’t like it

Rere: don’t worry, I have got this

Roti: in this kind of scenario, the president should be the one meeting the CEO and not you

Rere: I need to know the kind of person I am dealing with before I get him into a room with the President

Roti: (gives her the document in his hand) take

Rere: (collects it) what is this?

Roti: the candidates for the position of secretary of state

Rere: I will look at it in the car and pick one or better still who do you think I should pick

Roti: I say you go for Senator Abdulsalam Audu, he has a lot of influence in the party

Rere: okay (drops the file on her table and picks her bag and starts to leave)

Roti: before you go

Rere: what?

Roti: the firm’s account was credited this morning from the President. What is that about?

Rere: that is our fee for getting his bill passed and bringing the scientist home safely

Roti: that is a lot of money

Rere: and we are going to be receiving half of that every month till the end of the election

Roti: that is good

Rere: lest I forget again

Roti: what?

Rere: I need you to set up a meeting between the senate president and me

Roti: (confuse) the senate president? Why?

Rere: the enemy of my enemy is my friend

Roti: the enemy of your enemy is your friend, who is your enemy Rere? The President?

Rere: that came out wrong, I meant to say keep your enemies closer

Roti: why will you want to do that?

Rere: because you don’t know when he will to be useful to us. Today’s enemy can be tomorrow’s friend

Roti: I see no usefulness in the Senate President

Rere: will you please set up the meeting

Roti: of course I will

Rere: thanks (she opens the door and leaves)
