EPISODE 45

INT. A CLINIC’S WAITING ROOM- DAWN

Cece looks at the baby in the crib as the doctor checks her with his stethoscope. Then the doctor walks to Cece

CECE

How is she?

DOCTOR

She is fine

CECE

Really?

The doctor nods, then Cece sighs in relief

CECE

Thank you doctor, I was so scared she might have been infected by some bacteria

DOCTOR

Truthfully I am still surprise that she didn’t get some germs following the circumstance of her delivery

CECE

Can I take her home now?

DOCTOR

I will still like to monitor her

CECE

I live in Lagos, I will like to take her back with me to Lagos

DOCTOR

Okay then but make sure you get her to see a doctor to check her further

CECE

That won’t be a problem

DOCTOR

I will arrange for her discharge

CECE

Thank you doctor

The doctor leaves, Cece checks on the baby in her crib before she goes outside. The moment she enters the waiting room, she sees Bode Johnson and Madam Johnson enter the clinic in a hurry with fear on their faces

CECE

Bode!

BODE JOHNSON

Cece

Bode see her and walks to her with his mother coming behind him.

CECE

You didn’t have to come in this early, she is in safe hands

MADAM JOHNSON

We didn’t sleep till daybreak

OLABODE JOHNSON

Where is she?

CECE

Follow me

Cece leads them a bed separated from the other beds with a curtain, then she suddenly stops in the front of the curtain

MADAM JOHNSON

What is it?

CECE

I think it is best you go in alone Ma’am

MADAM JOHNSON

Why?

CECE

You know how she feels about her father

MADAM JOHNSON

That does not mean anything, I am sure she will change her mind when she finds out that her father came all the way from Lagos to see her this early

CECE

I don’t think that will make a difference to her

MADAM JOHNSON

Thi…

OLABODE JOHNSON

She is right mom

MADAM JOHNSON

Baba Remilekun!

Madam Johnson scolds her son

OLABODE JOHNSON

You should go in alone

Madam Johnson sighs and walks in alone to see Remilekun in the bed with cast on her leg. Remilekun smiles brightly when she see her grandma

REMILEKUN

Grandma!

MADAM JOHNSON

Remilekun

Madam Johnson hugs Remilekun tightly then she sits on the bed

MADAMJOHNSON

I told you not to go, look at you,

Remilekun smiles brightly

REMILEKUN

I am so happy I went

MADAM JOHNSON

How can you say that? Look at your leg

Remilekun looks at the entrance like she is waiting for someone

REMILEKUN

Where is dad?

Madam Johnson smiles brightly

MADAM JOHNSON

You want to see your dad?

REMILEKUN

Yes

MADAM JOHNSON

Baba Remilekun, your daughter wants to see you oh

Cece smiles to Bode brightly as he breathes in heavily and enters the room

OLABODE JOHNSON

Remilekun!

He looks at her leg

OLABODE JOHNSON (CONT’D)

How is your leg?

Remi stretches her hands to her dad, tears forms in his eyes as he hugs her but suddenly Remilekun quickly withdrawn herself from his embrace. Bode looks scared

OLABODE JOHNSON

Did I do something wrong?

REMILEKUN

Mom’s perfume? How do you know her perfume?

OLABODE JOHNSON

I know it because I buy her perfumes for her

Remilekun looks surprise

REMILEKUN

Really?

OLABODE JOHNSON

Yes

REMILEKUN

But why are you using it?

OLABODE JOHNSON

Because I felt you need something familiar

REMILEKUN

I can live with your wife’s perfume if that is why you are using mom’s

OLABODE JOHNSON

You don’t have to live with it

He sits next to Remilekun and he holds her hand

OLABODE JOHNSON

I am so sorry Remilekun

REMILEKUN

For what?

OLABODE JOHNSON

Firstly for making you keep my dirty little secret from your mom

Tears rolls down Remilekun’s eyes

REMILEKUN

It was not a secret, she knew about the affair

OLABODE JOHNSON

Yeah, I found out later. I am also sorry for missing your birthday, if I had been around, she might still be with us today

REMILEKUN

Yeah she might

OLABODE JOHNSON

But that night, your brother got sick, I had to rush him to the hospital

REMILEKUN

I didn’t know that, I am so sorry for blaming you for her death

OLABODE JOHNSON

I am still responsible. If I didn’t cheat on her, there won’t have been a child to rush to the hospital, hence I wouldn’t have to miss your birthday

REMILEKUN

I thought you didn’t come because you despise her

OLABODE JOHNSON

Despise her? Your mom was my confident and she still is because I can’t seem to find anyone else like her

Remilekun starts to cry

REMILEKUN

I am sorry too dad

OLABODE JOHNSON

For what honey?

REMILEKUN

For not been there for you, when she died, you must have been hurting too

Tears rolls down his eyes

OLABODE JOHNSON

It felt like my heart was yanked out of my chest

REMILEKUN

I am so sorry dad, I thought you didn’t like her enough to cry for her

OLABODE JOHNSON

I will always miss your mom Remilekun because she is a part of me. She is engraved in my heart and will always be here, why?

REMILEKUN

Why?

OLABODE JOHNSON

Because I see her in you everyday

REMILEKUN

That was what the know-it-all lady said

She hugs her dad tight

REMILEKUN

I missed you dad

OLABODE JOHNSON

I missed you too honey

Madam Johnson looks at father and daughter with tears of joy rolling down her eyes. Cece wipes the tears at the corner of her eyes away
