NIMAH

INT. A CLINIC’S WAITING ROOM- DAWN

Nimah faces Faruk Audu with confidence

FARUK AUDU

What?

Faruk Audu looks surprised

NIMAH

I want a divorce

FARUK AUDU

Divorce? What are you talking about?

NIMAH

I can’t do this again. I cannot allow Akeem to grow to be like you, I can’t allow Saidat to grow up thinking that a woman is meant to be beaten to show submissiveness to her husband. I want out of this marriage, I want a divorce

FARUK AUDU

What is this mad woman talking about?

He raises his hand to strike but a hand holds his hand from nowhere. He looks back to see Jamin holding his hand

FARUK AUDU

 What are you doing Jamin?

JAMIN

You are a disgrace to manhood

FARUK AUDU

Leave my hand alone

Jamin twist his hands and Faruk Audu screams in pain

JAMIN

I can believe you want to beat her in public again

NIMAH

Jamin, leave him alone

JAMIN

Sister, let me teach this man a lesson

NIMAH

Let him go Jamin

Cece comes into the room

CECE

Your sister is right Jamin, let him go

JAMIN

You don’t understand, my sister wants a divorce and he is about to beat her because of that

CECE

I know that but violence will not get your sister the freedom she deserve nor will it solve the problem at hand, so let him go

Jamin hesitates for like two seconds, Cece scowl at him 

CECE

Jamin, let him go

Jamin releases him reluctantly 

FARUK AUDU

Thank you sister

CECE

Oh don’t thank me because I am not your side. Jamin was been nice to you but I won’t be. I am the Grim reaper that is ready to end your life

FARUK AUDU

What?

CECE

You laid your filthy hands on a woman, your woman, the mother of your children. Oh God, I am so going to enjoying ending your rotten life

FARUK AUDU

Whatever happen between this woman and me stays between us, it is none of your business

CECE

Oh I made it my business because I have employed myself as this woman’s lawyer. I am going take the little thing you have until the beggars on the streets of Lagos have more worth than you do

FARUK AUDU

This woman is my wife, you can’t take her from me

CECE

Watch me, now take your sorry self out of this place

FARUK AUDU

Mama Akeem, let go

CECE

Young man, don’t test me. Get out before I call the police

FARUK AUDU

Mama Akeem we will see each other at home

Faruk Audu leaves. Jamin goes to his sister

JAMIN

You did the right thing sister

NIMAH

Did I? Where will I stay?

JAMIN

With me sister, you will stay with me

NIMAH

What about my children? Saidat is just one

CECE

Don’t worry about them, I will file for your divorce case tomorrow and also get you the temporary custody of your children until you and your husband reach a settlement

NIMAH

Thank you but I don’t have the money to pay

CECE

It is pro bono, you saved my life with your knife skills. Consider it your payment

JAMIN

Thank you Cece

Cece smiles and leaves.
