What if the president loses the primary?
INT. SOMEWHERE IN CALABAR- NIGHT
(Rere is in a hotel room, she stands at the balcony of her room in deep thought. Roti comes in)
Roti: Rere, you need to taste Calabar food, it is so delicious. If not because of work I would have loved to settle down here (no response. He looks up to see her deep in thought) Rere, Rere (no response. He stands up and taps her) Rere (she fidgets) what are you thinking about that you didn’t even hear me come in (Rere looks at him tiredly) I think you are tried and you need to rest
Rere: (softly) what if it does not work?
Roti: if what does not work?
Rere: what if after everything we have done, all the work, the bribery, the planning, what if the president loses the primary?
Roti: (smiles) for someone like you to be doubting yourself, this job must really be getting to you
Rere: (looking very serious) I am serious Roti
Roti: (notice her expression) we will win Rere, I trust your skills, I trust my skills and I trust our staff’s skills
Rere: (pacing around the room and talking with paranoia) this is not about our skills, this is about if the people that we asked to vote actually vote for the president, what if we don’t get the needed vote for the president to win the election
Roti: then we lose Rere but at least we know we tried our possible best
Rere: no, no, no, the president cannot lose the election (walks toward Roti) you have connection right, connection in the right way
Roti: you can say so
Rere: does that connection get to the committee in charge of the primary election
Roti: what are you saying Rere?
Rere: I am saying to use your connection to make the president win his election
Roti: you are asking me to rig the election Rere, are you serious?
Rere: I am dead serious
Roti: why must the president win the election?
Rere: Because it is our job to make sure he wins
Roti: no this is more than work for you, in fact it is not about the work at all. So tell me, what are you hiding? What are you planning?
Rere: what do you mean by that? What are you even talking about?
Roti: I don’t know you but I know you are hiding a lot of things about yourself. Look at you, you are paranoid
Rere: have you met me, paranoia is my second name
Roti: no, this paranoia is on a whole different level
Rere: Roti, just do as I ask you (she starts to walk away)
Roti: Rere we are not done talking
Rere: I know but our flight leaves Calabar by 7am tomorrow, I need to rest so do you. Good night (she enters the bedroom)
****************************
