I hate you mom
(Rere walks to her office with Roti and Richard behind her. Diekola and Ayo stands up when she sees Rere)
Diekola: (looking angry) I thought you said you could fix this
Rere: yes and I did
Diekola: then why is my name going to be the trending story tomorrow
Rere: that is because your daughter deceived me
Diekola: (looks confuse) what are you talking about
Ayo: yes, what are you talking?
Roti: last week you attended a charity gala in Lagos, didn’t you?
Ayo: yes I did and what does that have to do with this?
Diekola: what are you people talking about?
Roti: Senator your daughter ran into her ex-boyfriend at this gala
Diekola: what? (Faces Ayo)
Roti: with his wife, he was the main donor for the night. He is not just anybody, he is the CEO of the multibillionaire tech company in America. Your daughter saw this and saw the life she missed, the life you took away from her and for that she hated you (faces Ayo) right Ayo?
Diekola: (still looking confuse) that is not possible, why will she hate me when her boyfriend is blackmailing both of us
Rere: the boyfriend is not the blackmailer
Diekola: (shock) what?
Rere: your daughter sent the recording the real blackmailer to ruin you. She paid him to release the recording but the blackmailer got greedy and decide to exhort you for your money.
Richard: when I looked into the blackmailer’s account, I saw that your daughter sent him the money he is asking for possibly to get him to release the recording when she saw what we were about to do, which he did and when that didn’t work, she sent the recording to New Dawn Newspapers
Diekola: (in denial) like I said before that is not possible, my daughter won’t do that to me, (faces Ayo) right Ayo?
Ayo: (tears forms in her eyes) I hate you mom
Diekola: (shocked) Ayo?
Ayo: you ruined my life
Diekola: I saved you
Ayo: you saved me? Look at me mom, I am nothing but a shell of myself
Diekola: you have a good job and life Ayo, a life that most people will beg for
Ayo: well am not most people mom, what is the use of a good life and a good job if I am not happy (tears rolls down her eyes)
Diekola; (very sad as tear rolls down her eyes) Ayo
Ayo: you know none of this would have mattered if he had turned out to be the riff-raff, you said he would be mom but he is not, he is the CEO of a freckling tech company. Even if all he has to his name is nothing, am sure my life will be better than it is now with him. Seeing someone else take my place, hurts mom
Diekola: all I have ever done in my life, have done it for you
Ayo: no mom, all you have ever done for me, you did for you
Diekola: (rubs the tears on her face away) is that the reason why you did this?
Ayo: you ruined me, mom (she picks her hand bag from the table) it is only fair that I ruin you too (and she starts to walk out)
Rere: not so fast (blocks her way)
Ayo: my work is done here
Rere: you planned all of this, you should stay and see if it will work out
Ayo: (smiling) maybe I should
Rere: (smiling as she turns to Roti) I want to believe your source is stalling that story
Roti: no, she could not, the story came from higher ups and there was no stopping it
Diekola; it is over
Rere: no, it is over only when I say it is
Diekola: so what is the next course of action?
Rere; we come clean
Diekola: what? (Ayo burst into laughter) there is no way am doing that?
Rere: yes you are
Diekola: there has to be a way to stop this story from circulating
Roti: am sure by now, the tomorrow’s newspapers are been printed all over Nigeria, there is no stopping it but the best way to get out of this is getting ahead of the story
Rere: we swing the story in our favour
Diekola: by coming clean?
Rere: yes, you tell the people why you did what you did
Diekola: are you asking me to tell the people that got my daughter to abort a baby because I didn’t want her to marry a nobody
Roti: of course not, you can tell them that, you daughter would have died if she had given birth. I can get a medical report to confirm that
Rere: and your daughter by your side will make your story more believable
Ayo: am not doing that
Rere: oh yes you are
Ayo: no am not (she starts to walk away)
Rere: (blocks Ayo with her body) it seems you don’t know what is at stake here. If this story get out, your mother is not the only person that will get hurt. Some mighty, powerful people of this country who placed a lot of hope on your mother and the president will be hurt too. So if you don’t want to be their target, I suggest you play balls
