SECOND FLASHBACK- 25 YEARS AGO
EXT. BAR BEACH, LAGOS- NIGHT
(Nine years old Rere and her father walk to the quiet part of the beach where there is no one around. Rere walks angrily with her father walking behind her)

Oluremi: maybe something important came up

Rere: Dad, no matter what it is, he made a promise to bring Alex and Bridget for my birthday party at the beach but he didn’t fulfil his promise

Olumide: maybe he will still come, don’t give up

Rere: at what time Dad?

Oluremi: has he ever done this before

Rere: no

Oluremi: so can you let this go one time, you will always celebrate many more birthday (Rere nods regretfully) now where is the firecracker?

Rere: oh! I think I left it at the bar. Am coming (she run away)

Olumide: (shouting at the top of his voice) Rere wait, let go together (Rere didn’t respond and runs to the Bar which is at the other side of where her father is. Panting, she approaches the Bartender)

Rere: my firecracker

Bartender: I was coming to give you (he brings out the firecracker from underneath the bar) have it (Rere collects it and starts running again) Rere, stop running so that you don’t fall
(she runs back to her father but suddenly stop when she see  Nate Ehosa standing close to her father)

Rere: (smiling brightly) he came, for coming late I will make him find me (Rere runs to the nearby trees to take corner behind them. She looks at the duo and notice that they are arguing) are they fighting again? (She moves closer silently to hear what they are saying)

Nate: Remi please I need you to drop this case

Oluremi: (in a loud voice) what the hell is Bashorun offering you if I become the Attorney General because from the way you are acting, this is more than just me

Nate: nothing

Oluremi: (confuse) nothing? Then if you are getting nothing, why are you so obsessed with me dropping the case

Nate: isn’t it so obvious, with you as the Attorney General, I will be the next managing partner of this firm

Oluremi: well if becoming the Attorney General means becoming dirty, I am okay with been the managing partner of our law firm

Nate: well I am not okay with it, I am done been in your shadows

Oluremi: then be the Attorney General yourself, am sure Bashorun will want to help you

Nate: not if you drop the case first

Oluremi: well am not doing that (Nate turns his back to Oluremi and walks a few pace from him)

Nate: where is little Barbie?

Oluremi: what?

Nate: (he turns to face Oluremi) where is Lolu? Have not seen her

Oluremi: she went to get firecracker

Nate: (sighs in relief and nods) good (he brings out a gun from his pocket)

Oluremi: (shock, Rere looks sacred so she covers her mouth in shock) what the hell are you doing?

Nate: (shaking) please Remi, drop the case. I am begging you

Oluremi: what are you going to do? Shoot me?

Nate: I don’t want to

Oluremi: but you will if I don’t drop the case

Nate: I hope I don’t have to, we have come a long way for me to do that

Oluremi: yes, we have come a long way. We are good friends, I know you are ambitious but this, what happened to you?

Nate: (talking with pain in his voice) I am just sick and tired of been in your shadows

Oluremi: my shadow? You were never in my shadows. I may be the face of the firm but I carry you along with every decision I make in the firm

Nate: not enough for me

Oluremi: you want to be the attorney general right?

Nate: if possible yes

Oluremi: then we don’t need Bashorun

Nate: we?

Oluremi: yes, we, you and I. I am going to get you the sponsor you need. Bashorun is not the only politician in this country with all the cards (he starts to move towards Nate)

Nate: is that possible?

Oluremi: yes and I will find you the one that will help you (sees Nate contemplating, Oluremi moves to collect the gun from him and when Nate sees him coming, his finger pull the trigger shooting Oluremi in the chest. Tears fill Rere’s eyes as she watch her father go down)

Nate: (he looks at the gun and sees Oluremi on the floor) oh my God oh my God (bends down to stop the bleeding) why the hell will you come at me like that. I saw sense in what you said to me (tears start to pour from his eyes)

Oluremi: (choking his own blood) ho..hos…hos….hospital

Nate: I shot you in the chest possibly your heart, you can’t make it in time to the hospital. I am so sorry Remi (mucus comes out of his nose as he cry bitterly) I am so sorry, this was never my intention. Rere will be back soon, I need to leave (he stands up and picks in gun) I am so very sorry (he leaves hurriedly, Rere comes out of her hiding place with tears pouring from her face as she walks towards her father. She kneels over him and uses her hand to stop the bleeding)

Rere: (in her loud voice) help, please help, anybody please, my daddy is dying please
