Rotimi, thank you for everything



INT. SOMEWHERE IN MURTIALA MOHAMMED- EVENING 
(Rere (THE BLACK WOMAN) waits to get her bag when she sees THE WHITE WOMAN. The white woman smiles when she sees Rere and she hurries to meet her with her luggage)

THE WHITE WOMAN: we meet again

RERE: yes (sees her bag) that is my bag (she goes to pick it and walks back to the the white woman)

THE WHITE WOMAN: now that I think about it, we don’t know each other’s name, I am Clarisse Anton, and you are? 

RERE: Rere, Rereloluwa Shapiro

CLARISSE (THE WHITE WOMAN): (the smile on her face fades slowly) what? y…you….are the woman in that book? Everything in that book happened to you (Rere nods) did you see Alex? Is he willing to take you back? Is h……

RERE: (she cuts in sharply) I can’t answer any of your questions but what I can do is (she brings out the book from her bag along with a pen. She writes on the book and gives it to Clarisse) 

CLARISSE: it is the last copy, why are you giving this to me?

RERE: I have no need for it again, so it only right I give it to the person who understands my pain

CLARISSE: so it is real

RERE: yes it is, enjoy your stay in Nigeria (she start to walk away)

CLARISSE: Rere, I am so sorry (in a loud voice, and Rere waves to her. Rere wheels her luggage through the waiting room of Muritala Mohammed airport, she smiles when she sees an older Roti walking towards her. They hug each other tightly when they meet)

Roti: (smiling) did you enjoy your trip?

Rere: yes I did

Roti: did you see him? (Rere nods) and?

Rere: let just say I made peace (they both walks out of the airport where a Range rover jeep waits. Rere stops)

Roti: (looks back at her) come on let go

Rere: I want to go to the beach

Roti: Rere, you are not strong enough for that

Rere: I have to go

Roti: then let me take you there

Rere: when have you ever taken me to the beach?

Roti: that is because you never let me

Rere: and you think today will be different

Roti: I have a bad feeling, I need to be there with you today. In case anything happen, I need to be there for you

Rere: you have been doing that for the past 12 years, it is time you stop

Roti: Rere, is there anything I can do for you?

Rere: yes, you can replace my depression with joy

Roti: (with a sad look) Rere

Rere: I will be fine 

Roti: (with frustration) no you are not fine Rere, let me go with you

Rere: (hold his hard and caresses it warmly) I need to do this….alone (she drops the his hands and walks away from him and then turns back to him) Rotimi

Roti: yes

Rere: thank you for everything (she didn’t wait for response and she walks away. Roti struggles to fight back the tears that is forming in his eyes. Rere walks to an old cab Driver)

Taxi driver: (smiling) welcome madam, how was Hawaii

Rere: it was fine
